Frequently Asked Questions
Your Questions Answered
What can I expect during my first training session?
Your first session begins with a structured safety briefing and an evaluation of your current skill level. We start with safe firearm handling and dry fire fundamentals before progressing into live fire.
Training is tailored to your experience level. New shooters build a strong foundation. Experienced shooters refine efficiency, mechanics, and performance under structure.
Safety, consistency, and measurable improvement are the priority in every session.
What experience and background do you bring to your instruction?
I have over 14 years of shooting experience and have been instructing professionally for the past six years. I compete in USPSA and other practical shooting disciplines and regularly attend regional and national-level matches.
My approach blends competitive shooting principles with practical application, with a strong emphasis on safety, efficiency, and accountability.
Who do you train?
I work with:
-
First-time firearm owners
-
Competitive shooters
-
Concealed carry students
-
Military and law enforcement personnel
-
Experienced shooters refining performance
-
Students requiring adaptive instruction
Training is customized to the individual. There is always something to improve.
How do I know if I’m ready for training?
If you are willing to learn and commit to safe firearm handling, you are ready.
You do not need prior experience. You do need to approach training seriously and respect established safety standards.
Do you offer private lessons?
Yes. Private instruction is the core of DC Training & Tactics. I keep class sizes intentionally small to provide more direct instructor access and individualized coaching.
Private sessions are available by appointment. Contact DC Training & Tactics directly to schedule.
Do I need my own firearm?
No.
If you do not own a firearm, instructor-provided equipment is available. When using instructor-provided firearms, instructor-provided ammunition is required to ensure safe function and compatibility. Ammunition fees apply.
What should I bring to class?
-
Government-issued photo ID
-
Eye and ear protection (if you have it)
-
Appropriate outdoor clothing
-
An open mindset and willingness to train
Specific equipment requirements will be listed on your course page.
Where does training take place?
Training locations vary depending on the course and availability.
If you own property with a safe shooting area and suitable backstop, private training sessions may be conducted on your land. This can be arranged by contacting DC Training & Tactics directly. Photos or additional coordination may be required to ensure safety compliance.
Is this course appropriate for minors?
Yes. Minors may participate with a parent or legal guardian present. Additional consent documentation is required.
Youth firearm safety education is strongly encouraged. Understanding how to safely handle and respect firearms is an important life skill and should never be treated as something unfamiliar or mysterious.
Do you offer group training or private events?
Yes. Group training sessions and private events are available.
Structured group experiences, private sessions, and specialty range experiences with provided firearms may be arranged upon request. Contact Don at don@dctrainingandtactics.com for details.
Do you sell AR-15 parts and accessories?
Yes. Certain parts and accessories remain legal for purchase under Washington State law. If you are unsure about compliance, contact DC Training & Tactics prior to ordering. Assistance with compliant parts and consumable items is available.
What happens if I need to cancel or reschedule?
The full cancellation and rescheduling policy is outlined in our Terms of Service and during checkout. Please review those policies carefully before booking.
What if I’m unsure about my eligibility to possess or handle a firearm?
Federal law prohibits certain individuals from possessing or receiving firearms under 18 U.S.C. § 922(g). Washington State law contains similar prohibitions under RCW 9.41.040.
Under federal law, individuals prohibited from possessing firearms include (but are not limited to):
-
Persons convicted of a felony
-
Persons convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence
-
Persons subject to certain qualifying domestic violence protection orders
-
Persons whose firearm rights have been suspended or revoked
-
Persons who are unlawful users of controlled substances
Because firearm training involves handling and possessing firearms, individuals prohibited under federal or Washington State law may not participate in live-fire training.
It is your responsibility to ensure that you are legally eligible to possess and handle firearms before registering for training. Failure to disclose a known legal prohibition may result in removal from training and forfeiture of course fees.
If you are unsure of your eligibility status, you should consult qualified legal counsel before booking a course.
